When your workers compensation claim is denied

Workers' compensation insurance is reportedly going to be increasing soon in California. And while some experts say that the increases should be manageable for employers, this hasn't stopped some small-business owners from voicing their concerns about even a small increase in workers' comp costs.

Census Bureau stats show Hispanic workers have high injury rate

Although Hispanic oil and gas workers make up a small percentage of the workforce--7.2 percent in 2011--they suffer a high rate of workplace injuries. In 2011, they suffered more than 25 percent of all such accidents. Pressure to expand oil and gas production, fear of being fired and deported, and inadequate training made worse by the language barrier is a lot of what is behind the high injury rate.

Union fights university over staffing, safety concerns

Protesting alleged harassment and intimidation on the part of management, over 22,000 campus workers and service and technical workers affiliated with the University of California went on strike last month along with 13,000 supportive graduate students. The one-day strike was preceded by a two-day strike in May.
