Man dies in workplace injury at tire shop

When working in any type of automotive center, it is important to be fully aware of one’s surroundings. Workers in these types of environments are regularly faced with various types of heavy machinery and dangerous materials, whether they are in California or in another state. Exposure to hazards obviously increases the chances of experiencing a workplace injury.

One man found this out the hard way recently when he was injured in a workplace accident at a tire shop. The incident occurred in early December when the worker was run over by a dump truck. The driver of the dump truck began to pull his vehicle out of the garage after he was done filling out some forms. However, the 26-year-old truck driver stopped after he heard someone yelling.

Apparently, one of the garage employees was underneath the truck when the driver began reversing. The 35-year-old worker ended up being pinned underneath the front tires of the truck. Although paramedics were called immediately to the site, they ultimately pronounced the worker dead at the scene of the accident. Neither the driver nor fellow tire shop employees realized the man was underneath the vehicle at the time, according to reports.

Just as it does when a fatal workplace injury occurs in California, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) is currently investigating the incident. As of now, no criminal charges have been filed against the driver of the truck. However, regardless of whether criminal charges are filed against the driver, the family of the decedent may still be able to obtain death benefits via workers’ compensation insurance. These benefits can be helpful in paying for funeral expenses, as well as make up for any lost household income resulting from a loved one’s death.
