Many of contemporary society’s conveniences and infrastructure run on electricity, which has become vital to both everyday life and industry. However, electricity can too often prove deadly in construction workers’ accidents in California and other states. Unfortunately, this became the case for one man when he died in a recent fatal incident.
The man was working at a construction site one afternoon in mid-August when the fatal incident occurred. The 38-year-old worker was electrocuted while he was working in a ditch at a construction site. Apparently, the man was using a compressed air tool when he came into contact with a power line. Along with the man’s death, this also resulted in a power outage at approximately 1:50 p.m.
The accident at the construction site, located at a hospital, caused the medical facility to experience a power outage, along with hundreds of residential customers. Nearby residents reported hearing a loud boom at the same time the outage occurred. Investigators are still attempting to determine whether a transformer had been blown at the time of the deadly accident. The hospital utilized backup generators until approximately 2:24 p.m., at which point the power returned to service.
On the other hand, what will not be restored is the construction worker’s life lost in this fatal accident. Deaths caused by construction workers’ accidents can be troubling for any family in California or elsewhere. Not only is there emotional trauma to endure, but a surviving family may also be facing financial difficulties as a result of losing a monthly paycheck in addition to paying for the funeral. However, the family can obtain some assistance with their finances by obtaining death benefits via workers’ compensation.
